Professor Yos Santasombat

 

Yos Santasombat is a renowned Thai social anthropologist and currently Professor, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University. He is also Head, Biodiversity and Indigenous Knowledge Studies Center for Research and Sustainable Development and Chair, Ph.D. Program in Social Sciences in the University’s Faculty of Social Sciences.

Professor Santasombat is a senior research scholar of the Thailand Research Fund. He earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley in 1985. Prior to joining Chiang Mai University, Dr. Santasombat had an illustrious career in the Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology at Thammasat University culminating in becoming Full Professor in 1994. His specialization includes biodiversity, local knowledge and sustainable development, political anthropology, peasant society and culture, and psychological anthropology.

Professor Santasombat is a prolific field researcher and has numerous scholarly publications in his field in Thai and English and is the recipient of many awards. His latest book is Chinese Capitalism in Southeast Asia: Cultures and Practices (2017), published by Palgrave Macmillan.
