Tan Sri Dr. Syed Azman bin Syed Ibrahim

 

Tan Sri Dr Syed Azman bin Syed Ibrahim (PSM, SSAP, SIMP, DGMK, DIMP), was born in Sungai Petani, Kedah Darulaman. He is currently the Group Managing Director of The Weststar Group which is involved in the Aviation, Automoive, Defence and Construction industry. Prior to his involvement in the corporate world, Tan Sri Dr Syed Azman served with The Malaysian Armed Forces. He graduated from the ‘Officer Cadet School’ and was commissioned in 1980 by His Majesty The King. Subsequently upon being commissioned, he was assigned to the Royal Intelligence Corp of The Malaysian Armed Forces.

During his service with the Royal Intelligence Corp, Tan Sri Dr Syed Azman was appointed to several important positions; among them was the designated Military Intelligence Officer for the State of Sabah and later Selangor. Tan Sri Dr Syed Azman left the Malaysian Armed Forces in 1993 with the rank of ‘Major’ after serving 13 years to start his venture in business. Presently, he also serves as an advisor to The Malaysian Intelligence Corp Veteran Club.

In October 2015, Tan Sri Dr Syed Azman was conferred the Honorary Doctorate in Engineering by University Putra Malaysia (“UPM”) for his valuable contribution to the field of engineering. Soon thereafter, he was also appointed as a Committee Member of UPM’s Masters Program for Aerospace System Design Engineering.

Given his military background and his involvement in education, the Minister of Higher Education had appointed Tan Sri Dr Syed Azman as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Defence University of Malaysia in September 2017. Consequently, Tan Sri Dr Syed Azman had also been conferred the rank of Honorary Brigadier General by the Chief of Armed Forces for his illustrious contribution to Malaysia’s defence industry.

Apart from the above appointments, the Defence Minister of Malaysia had appointed Tan Sri Dr Syed Azman as his Special Envoy to the Middle East with effect from February 2017.
